An Appreciation of Stone 8

Firepit; Rick Anderson style.

This is a firepit area I designed for a client, my thought process was simple here: What if Fred Flintstone was a Landscape Designer?

Thats how I came up with the stone seating for the circle, a ring of stones for the fireplace, and of course a stone bridge over the stream spilling into the pond. This was only a couple of weeks after completion and thats why everything still looks so pristine.

The seats are recycled from old barn foundation stone and I think they add a real sense of permanence here. A couple of great things about stone seats:

  • They never need painted.
  • No need to bring them in during the winter.
  • Guaranteed not to rust.
  • A heavy person cannot break them.
  • Almost impossible to steal !!!

Fred Flintstone, huh? Does that say something about your client in this case? ;) Just kidding!

I love the stone seats--am absolutely drooling over them.

Ah, so you want some then?

Actually when I 1st mentioned Fred they looked at me as though I was crazy, then realizing it was ME . . . they said "sure, put 'em in".

I really like your designs here with the o'natural feel. I'm often perplexed at man's arrogence in his destruction of creation to bring about something 'less beautiful' and not nearly as 'long lasting'.
It's nice to see someone with the vision to create with creation instead of trying to create over it.
My respect.

What if Fred Flintstone was a Landscape Designer?

I lol'd.

It does look impressive. Great effort.

Definitely! Are they comfy to sit in, or would you want to bring a cushion out with you?

Thanks for all the great compliments, as to the cushion . . . well I guess that would depend on; ahem, ah . . . uh your on personal cushion, if you know what I mean.

I will always respect the natural World we can only do our best to compliment her.

Finally I'm glad everyone likes the Flintstone analogy . . .

Actually, it reminded me of Stonehenge. Wicked awesome :)

I love the design but the fire "pit" seems a bit unpractical. Maybe some larger stone and a depression would ease in clean-up and maintenance. I love your site keep up the great work.
